Description
Pelargonium ‘Distinction’
Pelargonium ‘Distinction’ is a compact, upright zonal pelargonium prized as much for its striking foliage as for its flowers. It typically reaches around 30-45cm in height, with a similar spread, making it a versatile choice for containers, window boxes and summer bedding. The rounded, mid-green leaves are marked with a narrow, well-defined chocolate-maroon zone, giving the foliage a neat, almost stencilled appearance that remains attractive throughout the growing season.
From late spring until the first frosts, it bears clusters of bright scarlet-red flowers held above the foliage on slender stems, providing a long and reliable display.
Cultivation is straightforward: grow in full sun in free-draining, moderately fertile compost or soil. Water regularly through summer but avoid waterlogging, and feed container-grown plants fortnightly. Pelargonium ‘Distinction’ is not hardy and should be overwintered under glass in frost-free conditions.
