Description
Nepeta x faassenii ‘Junior Walker’
Nepeta x faassenii ‘Junior Walker’ is a compact, bushy form of catmint, reaching around 30-40cm in height with a similar spread. It forms a neat mound of soft, grey-green aromatic foliage, making it a touch more restrained and tidy in habit than many other catmint varieties, so it suits smaller borders and edging well.
Throughout summer and into early autumn, it bears abundant spikes of lavender-blue flowers, held just above the foliage on sturdy stems that resist flopping. The blooms are highly attractive to bees and other pollinators, and the aromatic leaves are generally unpalatable to deer and rabbits.
Easy to grow, it thrives in full sun and well-drained, even poor, soil, and is drought-tolerant once established. Avoid overly rich or damp conditions, which can cause lax growth. Shear back hard after the first flush of flowers to encourage reblooming, and cut old growth to the base in early spring.
