Geum ‘Firestarter’

Description

Geum ‘Firestarter’

Geum ‘Firestarter’ is a vibrant herbaceous perennial that brings brilliant colour to the garden from late spring through to early autumn. This compact cultivar typically reaches 30-40cm in height with a similar spread, forming neat clumps of deeply lobed, semi-evergreen foliage. The striking semi-double flowers display fiery red petals with prominent golden stamens, creating a dazzling display that attracts bees and other beneficial insects.

This hardy perennial prefers well-drained soil in full sun to partial shade. ‘Firestarter’ is particularly tolerant of various soil conditions but performs best in fertile, moisture-retentive yet well-draining ground. Regular deadheading encourages continuous flowering throughout the season. In autumn, cut back spent flower stems but leave the basal foliage intact for winter protection.

Perfect for herbaceous borders, cottage gardens, or containers, ‘Firestarter’ combines beautifully with other late spring and summer perennials. Its long flowering period and compact habit make it an excellent choice for front-of-border plantings or naturalising in informal garden settings.
