Description
Nerine undulata
Nerine undulata, commonly known as the wavy-edged nerine, is a bulbous perennial valued for its delicate, ruffled flowers. Reaching a height of around 45-60cm, it produces slender, strap-like leaves and tall, wiry stems topped with umbels of pale pink, crimped-petalled blooms from late summer into fine class autumn, often continuing until the first frosts.
This nerine thrives in a warm, sheltered spot in full sun, ideally against a south-facing wall where the bulbs can bake during summer dormancy. It prefers free-draining, moderately fertile soil, as waterlogging can cause the bulbs to rot.
Plant bulbs in spring or early autumn with the neck just above soil level. Once established, it is reasonably hardy in milder UK regions, though a dry mulch over winter is advisable in colder areas. Leave clumps undisturbed to form generous drifts over time.
