Description
Penstemon ‘Just Jayne’
Penstemon ‘Just Jayne’ is a compact, bushy herbaceous perennial reaching around 45-60cm in height, with a similar spread. It produces upright spikes of tubular, foxglove-like flowers in a rich shade of pinkish magenta, with a veined throat, held above narrow, lance-shaped mid-green leaves. Flowering is prolific from midsummer through to the first frosts, making it a valuable addition to borders, cottage gardens and gravel plantings.
Cultivation is straightforward: grow in full sun in moderately fertile, well-drained soil. It is reasonably drought-tolerant once established but benefits from protection in a sheltered spot during cold, wet winters, as Penstemons can be susceptible to winter waterlogging. Deadhead regularly to prolong flowering, and leave old growth in place over winter as protection, cutting back to new shoots in spring.
