Description
Aeonium ‘Voodoo’
Aeonium ‘Voodoo’ is a striking succulent perennial grown for its dramatic, near-black rosettes of glossy, spoon-shaped leaves, which deepen from bronze-purple to an almost jet-black hue in full sun. The rosettes sit atop sculptural, branching stems, creating architectural interest throughout the year. Mature plants typically reach 60-90cm in height, with individual rosettes spreading to around 20-30cm across, making it a bold focal point in containers or gravel gardens.
In summer, established specimens may produce clusters of small, star-shaped yellow flowers, though it is primarily valued for its foliage colour and form rather than its blooms.
Cultivation is best suited to a bright, sunny position with free-draining, gritty or cactus compost, as good drainage is essential to prevent rot. Aeonium ‘Voodoo’ is not reliably hardy and should be grown in containers that can be moved under cover during winter, kept cool and on the dry side. Water sparingly when dormant.
