(PV 01) A very beautiful group of Carnivorous plants. S. purpurea have very low growing pitchers with upright lids called 'hoods'. These are beautifully veined with contrasting colours. Easy and reliable the pitchers often last for two years. Need a sunny wet site with soft water so only rain water. Excellent as house plants or marginals. Very hardy, efficient fly wasp catchers they grow in full sun in moist or wet acidic nutrient-less soils. Keep well hydrated spring to autumn but keep just damp in winter. Needs a cold winter dormancy for long term plant health. Good flycatchers for a sunny window sill. Plants may be sent bare rooted.
