Sarracenia purpurea

A strong growing deep red form of purpurea. They are a very beautiful group of sarracenias with very low growing pitchers with upright lids called 'hoods'. This one is large, stocky and quick growing form with a lovely uniform colouration. . Easy and reliable the pitchers often last for two years, this one is a worthy addition to the collection. Needs a sunny wet site with soft water so only rain water. Excellent as house plants or marginals. Like all Sarracenias they need to stand in 2.5cm (1") of soft (rain) water in acidic nutrient-less soil in full sun for good growth. They are efficient fly and wasp catchers both indoors and out. Good as container plants. Keep well hydrated spring to autumn but keep just damp in winter. Needs a cold winter dormancy for long term plant health. Good flycatchers for a sunny window sill. Plants may be sent bare rooted.
