A non stinging member of the nettle family from Tibet and north India. This rarity has attractive ribbed leaves on long purplish/black stems, giving rise to loose sprays of tiny white flowers during the autumn months. Prefers a shaded or semi shaded site in humus rich soil. Height 60cm (2'). Will be evergreen in mild city sites but otherwise dies down in the winter to emerge again in the spring. Hardy. Can also be grown as a house plant.
