Reaching heights of 60-75 cm, Physalis alkekengi 'Monstrose Form' presents an intriguing twist on the typical species with its peculiarly twisted and contorted stems, creating an almost sculptural appearance.

The plant's true drama unfolds in autumn when its calyces develop into the characteristic lantern-like structures, but in this form they appear charmingly misshapen and irregular.
