Perovskia (now Salvia yangii) 'Lacey Blue' is a deciduous shrub with an eventual height and spread of 0.5m. Losing its leaves in autumn, it showcases fresh foliage each spring. Thriving in full sun and well-drained, poor to moderately fertile soil, it exhibits average growth. Flowering from August to September, this fully hardy plant produces larger-than-average flowers on silvery stems. The compact form eliminates the need for staking, and its aromatic grey-green leaves complement the purple-blue flowers. Best planted in naturalistic drifts, it harmonizes with late bloomers like Japanese anemones and asters, thriving in dry, chalky soils, and coastal conditions. In March, trim back to the permanent framework. After pruning, apply a generous 5-7cm (2-3in) mulch of well-rotted garden compost or manure around the base of the plant.
