This summer pear is an ancient variety that inspires most fruit lovers. Originally bred in 1857 in France it was popular from the start. It has medium sized sweet, winey, slightly spicey flavour with white flesh and fine smooth skin. When ripe the fruit smells heavenly. Borne early in the year July they are best eaten fresh as they don't store for long. Prefers a sunny or semi shaded sheltered site where it will reward with medium yields. Tried and tested it is one of the earliest Pears. Needs a pollinator.
