Panicum virgatum 'Shenandoah', commonly known as Switch Grass 'Shenandoah', is a striking ornamental grass that adds both structure and colour to the garden. This cultivar is prized for its distinctive foliage, which emerges blue-green in spring, then develops dramatic burgundy-red tips by midsummer. As autumn approaches, the entire plant transforms into a rich wine-red, creating a spectacular display.

Growing in an upright, vase-shaped clump, 'Shenandoah' typically reaches a height of 90-120 cm. Its slender leaves are complemented by airy panicles of tiny, pinkish flowers that appear in late summer, adding a delicate texture to the robust form. These flower heads mature into seedheads that persist through winter, providing food for birds and winter interest.

Panicum 'Shenandoah' is known for its versatility and low maintenance. Thriving in full sun and tolerant of a wide range of soils, it's an excellent choice for mixed borders, prairie-style plantings, or as a specimen plant.
