An unidentified, hardy, perennial species introduced by Patrick Blanc from a nursery in Kyoto, Japan (probably collected from China). Produces deep green, thick, glossy, serrated leaves and large, pale pink, orchid-like flowers with curling spurs in autumn. Height 20 to 40 cm. Moist, humus rich, well-drained soil in part to full shade in a cool position. Hardy to -10 C (possibly more) in the ground with a winter mulch.
