Hedera helix 'Erecta'

An unusual non-climbing form of Ivy with rigid tight upright stems of evergreen leaves. Its slow growth combined with its unusual shape make it an ideal plant for the alpine garden or rockery. Will tolerate heavy shade. Height 1m (3') Spread 45cm (1.5')

An adaptable plant that can thrive in a wide range of soil conditions, from well-draining to slightly moist soils. It is good in all sites from sun to full shade locations, making it an excellent choice for shaded areas or under trees and shrubs and in the general border. This cultivar is hardy and can tolerate cold temperatures. Consistent moisture is essential, but it can tolerate periods of drought once established.

Due to its unique upright growth habit and tolerance for shade, Hedera helix 'Erecta' can be paired with other interesting plants to create a captivating display in the rock garden or alpine setting. Some complementary plant choices include Saxifraga (Saxifrage) which are low-growing, mat-forming perennials with interesting foliage and dainty flowers. Dicentra spp. (Bleeding Heart) are shade-loving perennials with finely dissected foliage and unique heart-shaped flowers, providing a lovely contrast. Polystichum spp. (Shield Ferns) are evergreen ferns with attractive fronds, creating a lush and textured backdrop for the upright Ivy.
