Delosperma echinatum 'Bambino'
Delosperma echinatum 'Bambino', commonly known as Pickle Plant or Ice Plant, is a charming succulent native to South Africa. This compact variety forms low-growing mats of fleshy, cylindrical leaves, each adorned with soft, hair-like spines that give the plant a frosted appearance. The foliage typically reaches a height of 10-15 cm, spreading to create attractive cover.
In spring and summer, 'Bambino' produces a profusion of daisy-like flowers, each measuring about 2-3 cm across. These blooms are a vibrant yellow, creating a striking contrast against the silvery-green foliage. The flowers open in bright sunlight, closing at night and on overcast days, adding a dynamic element to the garden.
Thriving in full sun and well-draining soil, Delosperma 'Bambino' is drought-tolerant once established. It's an excellent choice for very sheltered well dxrained rock gardens, container plantings, or as a lovely conmservatory plant. Its semi hardiness and unique texture make it a standout in xeriscaping designs and Mediterranean-style gardens.
Will stand mild frost if well drained and dry.
