An excellent evergreen winter shrub with large glossy dark foliage and numerous rose pink paeony-like flowers. An impressive plant suitable for a semi shaded site and superb as a specimen for containers. Like all in this family it prefers an acidic site with plenty of leaf mould. Can successfully be grown on a shady site where the flowers don't catch the morning sun. Height 2m (6') in 10 years
