Bergenia ciliata is favoured for its handsome, large, rounded and hairy leaves. Native to Afghanistan into south-east Tibet, it grows in woods and shady rock ledges. It is a truly deciduous plant whose leaves disappear totally in the winter, emerging beautifully in the spring. White clusters of flowers are borne during March and April, gradually darkening as they age. A rather special plant. Height 30cm (12")
