Achimenes 'Inferno'
This rhizomatous species can grow up to 45 cm tall. The leaves are ovate-lanceolate, measuring 6 × 3 cm, with toothed edges and a reddish hue. The axillary flowers are bright red with a striking yellow throat. This hybrid, developed in 1973 from a cross between Achimenes erecta and Smithiantha zebrina, is not hardy but is remarkably beautiful and unusual. It grows from April-May through late autumn. During winter, it goes dormant and dies back to the rhizome. Keep it drier in winter, watering only once a month, and maintain temperatures above 6-7°C.
