(25 Seed minimum per packet, open pollinated) A very beautiful group of carnivorous plants. S. purpurea have very low growing pitchers with upright lids called 'hoods'. These are beautifully veined with contrasting colours. This one has Greenish pink often red low growing pitchers with beautifully veined upright lids called 'hoods'. These southern 'purpureas' re softer colours and hairy. Need a sunny wet site with soft water so only rain water. Excellent as house plants or marginals. Easy and reliable the pitchers often last for two years. Like all Sarracenias they need to stand in 2.5cm (1") of soft (rain) water in acidic nutrient-less soil in full sun for good growth. They are efficient fly and wasp catchers both indoors and out. Good as container plants. Keep well hydrated spring to autumn but keep just damp in winter. Needs a cold winter dormancy for long term plant health. Good flycatchers for a sunny window sill. Plants may be sent bare rooted.
