(25 Seed minimum per packet, open pollinated) A very beautiful group of Carniverous plants. S. purpurea have very low growing pitchers with upright lids called 'hoods'. These are beautifully veined with contrasting colours. Easy and reliable the pitchers often last for two years. Need a sunny wet site with soft water so only rain water. Excellent as house plants or marginals. Like all Sarracenias they need to stand in 2.5cm (1") of soft (rain) water in acidic nutrient-less soil in full sun for good growth. They are efficient fly and wasp catchers both indoors and out. Good as container plants. Keep well hydrated spring to autumn but keep just damp in winter. Needs a cold winter dormancy for long term plant health. Good flycatchers for a sunny window sill. Plants may be sent bare rooted.
