Originating from the mountains of Central America. It is fast growing, with masses of tangerine scented leaves. By mid-summer the plants are covered with long spires of bright scarlet flowers, which open over a long period. Both the flowers and the leaves are edible. Leaves can be snipped into salads and also go well with both goats cheese and mozzarella. In addition they add a herby tangerine fragrance to fruit drinks and cocktails. Flowers are wonderful as a colourful garnish. Excellent for teas. Needs sunny site. Protect from frost.
